Academics

Carolina Classical Academy endeavors to form virtuous citizens through a classical education that cultivates the whole person, inspires critical thought, and pursues excellence in all things. Our mission success is dependent on close collaboration with our parents, who are the primary educators of their children. Through this working relationship, parents and teachers are able to form children to reach their full potential both in and out of the classroom.

Carolina Classical Academy aspires to be a beacon of classical learning that restores the pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty to the heart of our community.

Our school motto, Crescere, Veritatem Quaerere, Formari means To grow, To seek Truth, To be formed. We invite you to undertake this most worthy cause with us.

Our program provides a strong foundation in the core sciences and liberal arts, paired with intentional instruction in our seven Core Virtues as outlined below.

Throughout our courses, students are encouraged to learn through the lens of wonder. In the Grammar School, this means discovering the building blocks of our world in engaging ways. In the Upper School, wonder comes alive through Socratic discussions that invite students to explore what is

True, Good, and Beautiful.

  • Courage

The grit to persevere, the bravery to admit when one is wrong, and the resolve to stand up for a peer even when it is unpopular.

  • Moderation

Moderation is the art of self-control. It is the ability to govern one’s impulses and desires. A student practices moderation by balancing study with play and reacting to frustration with a level head.

  • Justice

Justice is the habit of giving to others what is their due. This manifests as fairness, honesty, and respect for the rights of others. It involves understanding that a community thrives only when its members act with integrity and uphold the social contract of the school, treating the teacher’s instruction and the student’s learning as things worthy of respect.

  • Responsibility

Responsibility is the recognition that our actions have consequences and that we have obligations to ourselves and our community. A responsible student doesn't just complete a task because they were told to; they do it because they understand that their growth and the well-being of the class depend on their contribution.

  • Prudence

Prudence is the ability to discern the best course of action in a given situation. Prudence is knowing how to use facts to make a wise decision. It is the bridge between intellectual learning and moral action.

  • Friendship

Friendship is a shared pursuit of the Good. It is a commitment to the character growth of another. This means fostering a culture where students challenge and support one another toward excellence, rather than competing in a way that diminishes others.

  • Wonder

Wonder is the deep sense of awe sparked by the complexity of a cell, the vastness of history, or the elegance of a geometric proof. Wonder ensures that learning is not a chore to be finished, but a lifelong pursuit of the Truth, driven by a genuine love for the world.

Lower School (K-5)

In Lower School, we focus on anchoring students with a robust foundation in language, mathematics, science, and history. By leaning into the mind’s natural affinity for rhythm, repetition, and fact-absorption, we transform curiosity into a deep reservoir of knowledge which is the essential precursor for developing sophisticated abstract thinking.

Middle School (6-8)

In the Middle School, we transition from the what to the why. No longer content with mere memorization, students begin to dismantle, analyze, and reassemble information. Through the Socratic Method and formal debate, we sharpen the mind’s natural inclination toward inquiry, teaching students how to think rather than telling them what to believe. By integrating Latin as a tool for linguistic precision and bridging the gaps between disciplines, we ensure that history, science, and literature are seen not as isolated facts, but as a unified tapestry of truth.

Upper School (9-12)

In the Upper School, students move beyond the what and the why to achieve mastery over the how. This is where knowledge and logic harmonize, empowering students to speak and write with wisdom and grace. Our students do not merely summarize the ideas of others; they analyze deeply, formulate original arguments, and defend their convictions with clarity. By teaching them to articulate truth with eloquence, we prepare them to be leaders, thinkers, and lifelong independent learners.
